Last weekend, I had the pleasure of covering the Island's first ever Ukulele festival, and I met some fascinating characters and heard some great stories. One encounter certainly stands out in my memory, that of the father and son duo 'Dead Mans Uke'. Tim and Jake are an interesting pair. I got chatting to them about the name of the duo, and it comes from a certain resonator ukulele that can be see in the pictures. Some of you may remember a character called Tiny Tim who famously sang 'Tiptoe through the tulips' https://youtu.be/zcSlcNfThUA It was recently featured in a supernatural thriller called Insidious. https://youtu.be/tEp-XtGOp0s The silver resonator ukulele is the very same instrument that Tiny Tim was holding when he had a heart attack and died whilst performing! hence the bands name! If you look closely at the photographs, you'll see a large dent on the bottom which is where it fell from his hands, and in another photo you'll see a double dent and scratch marks on the front, this is where it hit the mic in front of him at the moment of his collapse. It doesn't end there. The case is also Tiny Tims, it was the only case he ever used. They also happen to be amazing musicians in their own right and were a joy to listen to on stage but also real gentlemen off stage. You can visit their website here: http://www.deadmansuke.com/
